Rev. Dr. John E. Golisch
John was taken home on Nov.7, 2015 at the age of 83 after a very long illness. John was a counselor and part-time Pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect. He also was on the staff at Lutheran General Hospital. He started training for the ministry at Concordia Milwaukee at the age of 14 and finished at Concordia Seminary St. Louis at age of 25. He started a new church in Bel Air, Maryland on vicarage. After graduation, he was called to St. Peter Lutheran Church in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania and in his four years there the congregation, acting as their own contractors, built a new church.
In 1963 the Wheat Ridge Foundation choose John to study at the University of Minnesota, to become a clinical psychologist. He received his degree in 1969. He came to St. Paul in 1967 and served until his retirement in 1997.
He was born in Wisconsin to the late Rev. Dr. Clarence Golisch and the late Catherine nee Gray Golisch. He was a beloved husband to Joan nee Zimmermann for 59 years. He was a loving father to Faith (Randy) Steinberg, the late Joy Golisch, Beth Leipert, and Paul (Cindy) Golisch. Loving grandfather to Jen (Bob) Brady, Rob, and James Steinberg, Joe, Dan (Jamie), Cathy (Mike) Chittenden, Peter, and John Leipert, Kimmy, Alli, and Carly Golisch. He is also survived by siblings Catherine Sternitzky , Ruth (Bob) Bugge, David, Mary (Hughes), and Jim (Carol) and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Mt. Prospect, St. Louis Seminary, or the Wheat Ridge Foundation.
Visitation will be on Saturday, Nov. 14 at St. Paul Church, 100 S. School St., Mt. Prospect, from 1-3 pm with a funeral service to follow at 3 PM at the church.
